We’re huge fans of the iconic Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock movie. You know, the one about a bus that had to speed around the city, keeping its speed over fifty, and if its speed dropped, it would explode? We think it was called… The Bus That Couldn’t Slow Down.
Even though people are familiar with this amazing action flick, here’s seven pieces of obscure trivia you won’t believe.
1. Sandra Bullock wanted to drive the bus herself, so she took her test, passed on the first go, and drove it on camera for real throughout the movie.
2. Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy, Angel and Firefly, re-wrote most of the script without being credited! The original writer later revealed Whedon wrote basically all of the dialogue.
3. The scene where Annie, played by Sandra Bullock, takes the gum out of her mouth and mimes putting it on her seat to have an excuse to move away from the gross guy next to her was improvised by Bullock.
4. The director of Speed, Jan de Bont, freaked out that Keanu’s long hair didn’t look professional enough for a cop so made him get a buzzcut. The studio were so horrified when they saw it that they threatened to postpone the movie.
5. Remember when Keanu broke the glass on the bus door at the start of the movie? That was a total accident, but they liked it so much that they kept it in.
6. Keanu Reeves and Jeff Daniels trained with real S.W.A.T. teams, so they’d look and act just like the real thing on camera.
7. Ten buses were used in the making of the film. Each one had two steering wheels, one for Sandra Bullock, the other for the stunt driver, which was usually on the roof of the bus.
