Our obsession with all things Wonder Woman is as strong as ever, and we can’t wait for Justice League to hit our screens in November
As we wait with baited breath, steadied shield and furled up lasso for the hotly anticipated Justice League movie, here are the 4 best fan theories surrounding Wonder Woman in the DC Extended Universe.
1. WONDER WOMAN IS THE CHILD OF ARES, NOT ZEUS
Fan chatter has gone wild on this topic, as far-fetched as it seems. Amongst all her origins stories, the one that reigns supreme is that Diana is the daughter of Zeus – created out of clay and brought to life by the Gods. This is in line with the DC Extended Universe’s depiction of her character. But what if her arch nemesis Ares The God of War is in fact her dad? Conflicted much?
2. NEARLY EVERYONE, INCLUDING WONDER WOMAN, IS KRYPTONIAN (EXCEPT BATMAN)
This theory is gathering momentum. So Superman mightn’t be the last Kryptonian after all. Obviously The Flash, Cyborg and Batman aren’t – but there’s a small shadow of doubt when it comes to Aquaman and Wonder Woman. Fans have pinpointed clues in General Zod’s back story in Man of Steel, where Kryptonian scouting parties roamed the universe, perhaps landing on Earth and forming the basis of the Amazonian and Atlantean races. This would explain their superhuman strength.
3. GIRLPOWER WILL EXPAND TO INCLUDE SUPERGIRL
Nerd fandom went into overdrive when the Justice League Comic-Con trailer was released and the identity of the hologram hero was speculated upon. While it was assumed to be that of Superman, many have posited that it is in fact a brief glimpse of Supergirl. Fans have said the leg in the hologram looks ‘feminine’ and is gold coloured, which Superman’s leg is not. Perhaps Wonder Woman won’t be the only female superhero in Justice League?
4. THE MAGIC IS IN DIANA AND NOT IN HER WEAPONS
Does Diana pass on her superhuman strength to the weapons she uses and does she have the divine ability to empower otherwise normal objects? Following this line of thought, one fan stated: “I think the lasso is the only piece of equipment that is magical on its own. The bracers she seems to have been wearing since she was a kid and nobody seems to have a clue they are going to make a magic shockwave. Her nifty sword is destroyed but she has another to cut Doomsday. She's the only one who uses them or her shield. I think she's channelling her divine power through them. Rather than being themselves magical...” This theory has some legs – Diana is a God and perhaps any object she touches is imbued with magical, God-like powers.
