7 Reasons Why Dunkirk is the most highly anticipated movie of 2017

It’s no secret that Dunkirk is set to be the release of the year...
Anticipation has reached fever pitch for acclaimed auteur Christopher Nolan’s new epic Dunkirk, starring Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance; and with long time collaborator Hans Zimmer providing the score. But any new movie from this celebrated and cerebral Director is eagerly awaited. Nolan doesn’t make ordinary, run-of-the-mill movies - he’s constantly surprising and stunning us with the breadth and depth of his vision. So here are the reasons we can’t wait to experience it:

1. “This is Christopher Nolan’s answer to Saving Private Ryan” - The Guardian
The Guardian reports Dunkirk is “the most ambitious historical war movie since the glory years of Steven Spielberg and Oliver Stone.”

2. Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk Tops Social Media Buzz just by dropping a new Trailer

Variety reports that Dunkirk has so far generated more than 800,000 new conversations in social media. It generated the most social media buzz in one week with 52,000 new conversations, according to media-measurement firm comScore and its PreAct service.

3. This style of film is new territory for Nolan
“All of my big blockbuster films have been PG-13," Nolan stated. "It's a rating I feel comfortable working with totally. Dunkirk is not a war film. It's a survival story and first and foremost a suspense film. So while there is a high level of intensity to it, it does not necessarily concern itself with the bloody aspects of combat, which have been so well done in so many films."

4. First Nolan movie to be based on historical events
All of his other movies have either been original scripts, remakes, based on a novel/short story adaptation or comic book adaptations. On recreating the 1940 evacuation of Allied soldiers who were cut off and surrounded by the German army on the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk, France, Nolan stated “This is an essential moment in the history of the Second World War. If this evacuation had not been a success, Great Britain would have been obliged to capitulate. And the whole world would have been lost, or would have known a different fate: the Germans would undoubtedly have conquered Europe, the US would not have returned to war. It is a true point of rupture in war and in history of the world... Militarily it is a defeat; on the human plane it is a colossal victory."

5. Nolan continues his advocacy for film over digital format
Dunkirk will be the third major motion picture of this decade to be shot and shown theatrically in 70mm, following on from The Master in 2012 and Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight in 2015.

6. Tom Hardy and Christopher Nolan - together again for the third time
This is the third collaboration between the Director and star after Inception in 2010 and The Dark Knight Rises in 2012.

7. Film debut of Harry Styles
Harry Styles takes a new direction with his first ever movie role. On why he chose Styles, Nolan said "I auditioned literally thousands of young men with different combinations of young men. And he had it."
