8 Reasons Why Wonder Woman is the 8th Wonder of the World

Shaping up to be *the* superhero film of 2017, Wonder Woman is rocking the world so hard right now.
A raving success with fans and critics alike, we can’t help but shake the feeling that the Amazon Princess may have changed the superhero landscape for good...

1. It’s got a Rotten Tomatoes score of 93%
It’s the barometer by which all movies and TV shows are judged. Some fear it, some loathe it, some worship it, but everyone pays attention to it. The Tomatometer has spoken and it too has fallen in love with Wonder Woman, with an average viewer rating of 4.5 out of 5.

2. The critics are raving
Wonder Woman is one of the best received superhero movies ever created. Entertainment Weekly claims “Wonder Woman is smart, slick and satisfying in all of the ways superhero films ought to be.”

Indiewire hails it as “the very best film the DCEU has made yet. There’s only one word for it: wonderful”.

3. She’s everyone’s new favourite superhero
“A rollicking feminist superhero tale that will inspire a thousand costume parties... we need more superheroines like this” raves sbs.com.au. The Sydney Morning Herald says it’s “the best outing yet in DC's comic-book universe...Wonder Woman breaks the superhero glass ceiling.”

4. Gal Gadot is a newly crowned superstar
The search for the new Wonder Woman seemingly went on for years, with names like Kate Beckinsdale, Sandra Bullock, Jessica Biel, Kristen Stewart and even Aussies Megan Gale and Teresa Palmer all rumoured to star. But thankfully, a little-known former soldier, former Miss Israel and former model was given her big break. Combining sheer athleticism with nobility, likeability and a total understanding of the character, Gadot is the woman every girl aspires to be.

5. It’s given us our new favourite director, Patty Jenkins

“Any ridiculous notion that a woman may not be suited to direct a big budget superhero movie is hopefully once and for all shattered,” media analyst Paul Dergarabedian told CNN. Jenkins captured the heart and strength of Wonder Woman and has de-throned director Sam Taylor-Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey) for the biggest ever opening weekend by a female director.

6. The movie captures the history of the character brilliantly

When William Moulton Marston created the Wonder Woman character in 1941 during WWII, women the world over were being recruited into the war-time effort to work in factories, hospitals, laboratories and governments. For the first time, they were the primary bread-winners and felt true empowerment. It was no co-incidence then that this time spurned the first ever female superhero- a woman of her time, for all times.

7. A role model for everyone – but especially women and girls
Hailing from the mythical all-female warrior society of Themyscira – warriors played by real life athletes - in the film,  Diana Prince was taught from a young age that women can do anything and be anything.

Wonder Woman is a 21st century feminist icon, relevant to women of all ages.

8. She shows that women can drive the action
To masses of fans the world over, Lynda Carter established the head-strong brand character of Wonder Woman in popular culture. Now Gal Gadot takes over the mantle and delivers it into a whole new realm. By deciding to leave her beloved homeland sanctuary to fight for good in a world she barely knows, Wonder Woman strikes out on an epic adventure to help humankind.
