13 Things You Never Knew About Wonder Woman

Here are some surprising, little known Wonder Woman facts garnered from our lasso of truth.
1. Originally, her creator, William Moulton Marston, named her Suprema, the Wonder Woman. The first part was dropped as it sounded very similar to Superman, and she was instead named Wonder Woman by the DC editors.

2. The Lasso of Truth is a real life parallel to the polygraph. This weapon is likely to be inspired by Marston’s own creation of the polygraph or the lie-detector machine.

3. Wonder Woman has even overpowered Supergirl, who is sometimes considered more powerful than Superman.

4. For a period in 1960’s, she actually lost her powers and lived as Diana Prince, opening a fashion boutique in New York’s Greenwich Village.

5. In 1967, there was a failed TV pilot entitled Who’s Afraid of Diana Prince?, which was meant to have the same campy feel as the successful Batman series of the time.

6. Producer Zack Snyder has a cameo in the new movie as a World War I soldier.

7. Patty Jenkins is the first woman to direct a superhero film with a female protagonist, AND Wonder Woman has largest budget ever given to a female director.

8. In 2005, Angelina Jolie was offered the chance to play the lead role, but declined. In 2015, she was considered to direct it. Kate Beckinsdale, Sandra Bullock, Jessica Biel, Kristen Stewart and even Aussies Megan Gale and Teresa Palmer were rumoured to take on the WW role over the years.

9. The role of Queen Hippolyta was offered to Nicole Kidman but she passed.

10. Gal Gadot was a part of re-shoots for the movie (including stunts) while being 5 months pregnant. Her baby bump was visible, so the crew created a costume which had a green screen around her belly, which was later removed during post-production.

11. When Gal Gadot was asked by a reporter how she would get Wonder Woman's breasts from the comics, she answered, "Wonder Woman is Amazonian, and historically accurate Amazonian women actually had only one breast. So, if I'd really go 'by the book,' it'd be problematic".

12. Gadot practiced Kung Fu, kick boxing, sword fight, jiu jitsu and capoeira as part of her physical preparation for the role.

13. Gadot has someone special to thank who helped calm her nerves during her audition: “I decided to put on Beyoncé ‘Who runs the world?’ I just started to dance, and I let my anxiety go. Thank you, Beyoncé!”

Wonder Woman is now playing at a cinema near you.

Power. Grace. Widsom.
