Everything You Need To Know About The Flash

The who’s who of Justice League – here’s everything you need to know about The Flash
Whoever thought that the star of The Perks of Being a Wallflower would make the ideal choice as The Flash is a genius. The ethereal, charismatic, supremely talented Ezra Miller is a brave and sensational choice as the big screen version of Barry Allen/The Flash. Lithesome, graceful, athletic and with a lightning fast wit, Ezra Miller shares many characteristics with the superhero he plays. He is one of Hollywood’s most exciting rising stars... and he has created a Barry Allen/The Flash that is unique in the superhero world. In Justice League, we have a Flash that defines our era and reflects our times. Want to know more about him? Read on...

The Justice League version of The Flash is inspired by... Metallica?? Ezra Miller went on record to describe his take on Barry Allen: “He’s this really endearing, altruistic nerd. He’s the 13-year-old Metallica fan, and Metallica says, ‘We lost our drummer in a freak accident. We need you to play drums, bro!’ ‘I don’t even have drumsticks!’”

The Flash

Exactly how fast is The Flash? Of course someone has figured it out from what we’ve seen in the Justice League trailer – the borderline geniuses at ‘The Science Of’ have calculated that roughly 1 second in our world is the same as 62 for Barry Allen when he is ‘at speed’ as the Flash. This has been worked out based on the breakdown of the trailer sequence where Bruce Wayne throws his batarang at Barry Allen as a catalyst for him to turn into the Flash. We’ll know more as further footage of The Flash at speed is released. Keep watching for clues.

A key element from the comic book Flash is missing... Comics and movies aren’t viewed the same way and some character elements don’t translate from page to big screen – so there have to be minor adjustments sometimes... and this one has some fans concerned. Ezra Miller answered: “I can confirm, spoiler alert, his suit does not pop out of his ring [in the movie]. Things have to progress, you know? Original Barry Allen was clearly an incredibly, incredibly clever scientist. We acknowledge and respect that. I know the ring is the coolest thing about the DC Universe, it was a little hard for us to sell in this version of this universe right now. Bear with us! There’s gonna be other cool things.”

The Flash

Will Flashpoint be utilised in Justice League? Flashpoint is an alternate timeline – The Flash is capable of moving so fast, he can actually go back in time. In both DC Comics as well as the WB The Flash TV series, Flash draws power from an invisible energy called the Speed Force, enabling him to travel through time. While The Flash’s own movie is still a year or two off (after Justice League, then Aquaman’s solo film) we’ll have to wait and see when Flashpoint hits the big screen.

What we know about the story so far and The Flash’s role in Justice League... Steppenwolf and his group of Parademons are hunting down the 3 Mother Boxes - all-knowing computers that are alive and created by the New Gods – which Darkseid is a member of. The Mother Boxes are cared for by the Atlanteans, Amazonians, and humans. Steppenwolf fights Wonder Woman for the Amazonian Mother Box, Aquaman for the Atlantean Mother Box, and Batman/Cyborg/The Flash for the human Mother Box.

The Flash

Justice League’s tone is being compared to Star Wars: Return of the Jedi... ‘From the Grapevine’ has claimed: “While the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi is being touted as taking the franchise in a ‘darker’ direction, the Justice League film will reportedly push the DC Comics franchise more towards the light”. Added visual effects supervisor Bryan Hirota: "Justice League was always the rebirth of hope - it's a bit like Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back -  Dark movie! But then Return of the Jedi is the rise and the rebuilding of hope."

The Flash seems to be a major contributor to this ‘tone’ – from what we’ve seen so far, Barry Allen/The Flash gets all the good lines:
Bruce Wayne: “I'm putting together a team of people with special abilities. See, I believe enemies are coming...”
Barry Allen: “Stop right there. I'm in.”
Bruce Wayne: “You are? Just like that?”
Barry Allen: “Yeah, I... I need... friends.”

Use your Speed Force to get the full Flash experience when Justice League hits cinemas in November.
