Everything You Need To Know About Cyborg

The who’s who of Justice League – here’s everything you need to know about Cyborg
Half-human, half-machine, Victor Stone is Cyborg, a true superhero for the modern age and the literal marriage of technology and humanity. A digital and physical tank, Cyborg is plugged into every computer on Earth and no fire-wall – or brick wall – can keep him out. But his existence in the digital realm has rendered him isolated and alone in the physical world – until he joins the Justice League.

They are not only his fellow superheroes, but the only family he now knows. Complicated, torn, brooding and super intelligent, here is even more you mightn’t know about one of the most vital forces in the League, brought to life by relative-newcomer, Ray Fisher. Since Fisher has already played Muhammad Ali in the off-Broadway play Fetch Clay, the world is now ready for a big screen black super hero: “Fisher’s Cyborg has the potential to be the film’s secret weapon” – Forbes Magazine.

Here are all the things you need to know about Cyborg…

He’s a founding member of the Justice League... joining Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and The Flash. He might be the junior member, but he stands tall among these six other icons. Thanks to the Mother Box technology and his knowledge of the New Gods, Cyborg is an integral figure in the League’s plan to stop Darkseid’s invasion of Earth. Early Justice League trailers suggest Victor Stone is only able to live as Cyborg because a Mother Box is actually a part of him.

He’s got family issues – originally Vic Stone was a star athlete and the son of two of S.T.A.R. Lab’s top scientists, but when they experimented on him to increase his intellect, things started going wrong. When a tragic accident nearly killed him, his father went to the extreme to save his life -merging his broken body with that of cybernetic machinery. When dad makes you a walking armoury with sonic cannons, parental love is twisted.

Cyborg’s special powers summed up: super strength, advanced technology, instant weaponry, genius-level intellect, control over technology, computer hacking, durability, teleportation – he’s got them all.

Cyborg has some extra powers that no-one else in the League can touch... he’s got technopathy, allowing him to ‘hear’ and control internet-connected technology, scrambling or changing the messages at will. He also has the ability to technomorph, meaning he can assimilate technology with his own body to either repair himself, gain knowledge, or gain a new ability. How millennial!

A different take on Cyborg... Fans of Cyborg from the Teen Titans animated series may find that Ray Fisher's version of the character is different to what they expect: "He's a very real and grounded character and that's something I found very interesting to bring to the table. I love the cartoon, but this is a different Cyborg, for a new era."

This version of Cyborg doesn’t even sleep. He simply acquires data while at rest. He’s online 24/7, no re-booting required.

Booyah lives! While this may be a new interpretation of Cyborg, his signature catchphrase lives on. “I was a huge fan of that Cyborg growing up as a kid,” Fisher said.

Cyborg has never had a love interest – there’s no Lois Lane or Steve Trevor in Cyborg’s life, and it’s been that way since the characters inception nearly 40 years ago. Maybe we’ll see one soon?

Cyborg in Justice League

It’s official – Cyborg’s planned solo movie has been slated to arrive in 2020. Bring it on!
