5 times Bradley Cooper was meant to be undesirable, but you still wanted a piece anyway..
How is it that even when Bradley Cooper is cast to play an unattractive character, he somehow manages to preserve his leading-man allure? Not for nothing, that Sexiest Man Alive moniker.
Here are 5 roles when Cooper was supposed to be less than bae...
Wedding Crashers: Sure, he was a sexist jock who needed to be taught a few lessons, but Cooper’s character Sack Lodge was handsome, athletic and super brainy (hello sapiosexuals). He also made a yellow v-neck pullover work – that’s a skill right there.
Silver Linings Playbook: Despite his heavier frame, considerable mental health problems and violent tendencies, Cooper made us love him in Silver Linings Playbook. His Pat Solitano was a flawed character, but he was too a tragic romantic, with a quiet sweetness and a determined resolve to better himself – SO virtuous. Also, homeboy could seriously cut the rug <3
American Hustle: Richie DiMaso’s roller curls may have been a disco nightmare, but playing the highly-strung FBI agent in American Hustle, your boy Brad wore a brown suit like nobody’s business. Complete with chains, a gloriously hairy chest and sweet aviator shades, Richie was shades of John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever when he busted out those slick disco moves under the mirror ball.
American Sniper: The real Chris Kyle thought Bradley Cooper was too good looking to play him in American Sniper, prompting the usually svelte Cooper to pack on 18kgs and grow out a beard in the name of cinematic truth. His resemblance to Kyle was uncanny, even according to his wife and close friends, yet Cooper’s perfect characterisation of Kyle – sensitive, single-minded, devoted and humble – made him all the more appealing to audiences.
War Dogs: Maybe it’s the aloofness and detachment he brings to the role of Henry Girard that makes this bad-ass arms dealer rather attractive. Maybe power is just sexy. Even after learning that Girard is on a terrorist watch, we, like Diveroli, still kind of like him. He wears those aviator glasses again too. That helps.
