Dee Stanton's life is on the up. At work, she is being encouraged to study to become a solicitor and at home Dominic Milne has just proposed. But things take a turn for the worse when a fit of conscience, Dee confesses that the father of her son Jamie, whose memory he idolises, is not actually dead but is the most heinous of criminals, convicted of murdering four teenage girls.... When a female schoolmate of Jamie's is murdered, an attempt is made on another girl's life, and both Jamie and Dominic are implicated in the crimes, Dee has to ask herself is her son like his father?
